Airport Liquid Disposal Bin – Stainless Steel Liquid & Bottle Bin Set

At an airport security checkpoint, a passenger with a half-full water bottle has a problem and so does the airport. Pour the liquid into a general waste bin and it soaks the rubbish, leaks through the liner, and makes the bag too heavy to lift safely. The airport liquid disposal bin solves that by separating the two actions: empty the bottle into one bin, drop the bottle into the next.

NORDVOX supplies the pair as a single solution. The liquid bin channels drinks through a strainer funnel into a sealed 50-litre polyethylene tank. The bottle bin takes the empty container into a 150-litre galvanised liner for recycling. Both are built from 1.5mm SS304 stainless steel on lockable castors.

Designed Around Passenger Behaviour

A single bin asking passengers to do two things rarely works under time pressure. Therefore, the NORDVOX solution splits the task visually and physically. The liquid bin carries “Empty your bottle here” with a pouring pictogram; the bottle bin is marked for the container itself. As a result, the sequence reads at a glance in a queue, in any language.

Above all, this keeps liquid out of the general waste stream — which is the operational problem airports actually care about. Liquid in refuse adds weight, creates spill and slip hazards during collection, and contaminates recyclable plastic that would otherwise have value.

How the Liquid Bin Works

  • Strainer funnel — an oval top aperture holds a removable plastic funnel with a built-in strainer, so liquids pass through while caps, straws, and debris are caught before reaching the tank.
  • Sealed 50L PE tank — a leak-proof polyethylene container holds collected beverages safely until drainage.
  • Faucet drainage — a tap fitted to the base of the tank means staff drain it in place rather than lifting a full container.
  • Removable tank — where full removal is preferred, the tank lifts out through the lockable door.
  • Castors as standard — the unit rolls to the nearest drainage point instead of the liquid being carried to it.
  • Pull-out funnel — the funnel removes for washing, so the contact surface stays hygienic.

How the Bottle Bin Works

  • 150L galvanised liner — high capacity for lightweight plastic bottles, which take up volume rather than weight.
  • Matching slot aperture — the same 167 × 296mm opening keeps the pair visually consistent.
  • Recyclable stream kept clean — because the liquid is already gone, the bottles stay dry and retain their recycling value.
  • Same body and footprint — identical SS304 construction and dimensions, so the two units read as one installation.

Security and Access

The full-height door on each unit is fitted with a snap-lock opened by a provided key. Consequently, the tank, the liner, and the collected contents are inaccessible to passengers and to unauthorised staff — which matters in a controlled airside or landside security environment.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an airport liquid disposal bin?

An airport liquid disposal bin is a sealed stainless steel unit placed at security screening checkpoints so passengers can empty beverage containers before screening. Liquids pass through a strainer funnel into a leak-proof internal tank, keeping them out of the general waste stream. It is normally paired with a separate bottle bin for the empty container.

Why separate liquids from the bottle?

Liquid poured into a general waste bin soaks the refuse, leaks through liners, and makes collection bags heavy and hazardous to lift. It also contaminates plastic bottles that would otherwise be recyclable. Separating the two keeps the waste stream dry, the bottles clean, and the collection round safe.

How is the liquid tank emptied?

A faucet fitted to the base of the polyethylene tank allows staff to drain it in place, so a full 50-litre tank never has to be lifted. Alternatively, the tank can be removed entirely through the lockable door. Because castors are fitted as standard, the whole unit can also be rolled to the nearest drainage point.

What capacity are the two bins?

The liquid bin holds 50 litres in a sealed polyethylene tank. The bottle bin holds 150 litres in a galvanised steel liner. The difference reflects how the two waste types behave — liquids are heavy and compact, while empty bottles are light and bulky.

Are the bins secure?

Yes. Each unit has a full-height door fitted with a snap-lock opened by a provided key, so the tank, liner, and contents are inaccessible to passengers and unauthorised personnel.

Can the graphics be customised?

Yes. The applied instructional text and pictograms can be specified to match an airport’s wayfinding system, house typeface, or language requirements.

Can the bins be bought separately?

Yes. The liquid bin and bottle bin are available individually or as a paired set. However, most checkpoint installations specify both, because the two-step sequence is what keeps liquid out of the recyclable bottle stream.
